Pile Testing.

About Bored Piles

APG provides three independent pile testing services to verify pile integrity, performance and compliance with project specifications. While each method has a different objective, they share one common goal: confirming whether a pile meets the load it was designed for.

From non-destructive integrity testing through to ultimate failure load testing, our team delivers testing solutions across major infrastructure, commercial, industrial, and civil projects throughout Australia.

Methods Available

Pile Integrity Testing (PIT)

APG undertakes Pile Integrity Testing to assess the continuity and overall condition of installed piles. This non-destructive testing method is used to identify potential defects such as voids, necking, inclusions, or changes in pile geometry, providing confidence in pile quality and construction compliance. The test is performed by applying a small impact to the pile head and measuring the reflected stress waves travelling through the pile shaft. Variations in the returning signals can identify potential defects such as cracking, voids, necking, inclusions, or changes in pile geometry. Such as:

  • PULSE ECHO TESTING (PIT/PET)
  • CROSS HOLE SONIIC TESTING (CSL)
  • THERMAL INTREGITY PROFILING  (TIP)
APG performs Pile Dynamic Load Testing to evaluate pile capacity and driving performance under dynamic loading conditions. The test involves attaching sensors to the pile and recording stress and acceleration data generated by hammer impacts during installation or restrike testing. The collected data is analysed to estimate pile capacity, pile stresses, hammer performance, and overall pile behaviour.
APG delivers Static Load Testing to confirm pile performance under applied compressive, tensile, or lateral loads. Static load testing provides direct verification of pile capacity and behaviour, ensuring compliance with project design requirements and relevant Australian Standards. The test involves incrementally applying load to the pile using hydraulic jacks and reaction systems while measuring pile movement and settlement

Primary Applications & Use Cases

AS 2159 Compliance Verification

Major infrastructure, commercial and civil projects where Australian Standard pile capacity confirmation is mandatory before structural load is applied.

Non-destructive testing of installed piles to detect voids, necking, mushrooming, inclusions, cracks or changes in pile geometry before the structure goes on.
Direct verification of pile performance against the design load, or sacrificial testing loaded to failure to establish ultimate capacity for project records.

Integrity testing of older piles where original geometry, length or condition is unknown, supporting redevelopment, refurbishment, and load reassessment.
