APG is delivering complex piling and foundation works across three major work packages on South Australia’s largest infrastructure development, completing the final section of the Adelaide North-South Corridor.
Australian Piling Group (APG) is delivering complex piling and foundation works across the Southern Tunnel & Surface Package (STSP), Northern Tunnel & Portal Package (NTNP), and Central Section of the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project.
T2D forms part of South Australia’s largest infrastructure development and will complete the final section of the Adelaide North-South Corridor, significantly improving traffic flow and connectivity through the city. APG’s scope spans major retaining structures, tunnel infrastructure, bridge foundations and temporary works, delivered concurrently across multiple work fronts.
CFA methodology was selected for its speed, vibration-free installation and ability to maintain programme across multiple concurrent work fronts in constrained construction zones.
Bridge foundation piles required high load-bearing capacity and tight integration with the bridge construction sequencing programme.
Bored piling delivered the precision and load capacity required to support heavy gantry crane operations across active construction zones.
Multiple piling rigs exceeding 120 tonnes, supported by cranes, concrete pumps and experienced crews, deployed across several concurrent work fronts in coordination with major earthworks, excavation, civil and tunnelling activities.
Works are being undertaken within busy construction zones alongside live roads and active infrastructure interfaces. APG implemented detailed traffic management, structured work staging and constant coordination with adjacent contractors to maintain the programme without compromising the surrounding road network.
Significant portions of the work are being completed during night shifts to accommodate project staging and minimise disruption to surrounding road networks. Maintaining safety standards, quality controls, and productivity during night operations required experienced crews, specialised site lighting, and tightly managed access protocols.
A key technical challenge involved installing reinforcement cage couplers at extremely precise positions so they align flush with future base slab connections once excavation is complete. APG implemented strict survey controls, dedicated QA processes, and experienced installation crews to consistently achieve the required tolerances.
Delivering piling concurrently across three major project sections required significant resource planning, fleet management, and coordination across multiple active work fronts. APG deployed multiple 120+ tonne piling rigs alongside support cranes, concrete pumps, and experienced crews, working simultaneously across the STSP, NTNP, and Central Section packages.
